We must not play into ISIS' narrative that they are being opposed only by 'the West'. Importantly, Britain must not be knee-jerk in our response: the fact that something must be done doesn't mean you do something that is going to be counterproductive.

"I am encouraged, perhaps 3 years later than it needed to be, that David Cameron is talking about potential negotiations with Vladimir Putin over Syria. In order to create a lasting solution, it is critical that we engage with all of the key actors in the region- including Russia- and actions we take should then fit into that broader diplomatic context."
